State law requires that all dogs over the age of six months in the Commonwealth be licensed annually. It also requires a higher license fee for dogs that are not spayed or neutered. In Ashfield, the fee is $5.00 for a spayed or neutered dog and $10.00 for an intact dog. In order to obtain the discounted rate, veterinarian’s verification that dogs have been neutered or spayed is required.
Proof of current rabies is also required for all dogs. We most likely have this information for dogs previously licensed in Ashfield. Usually, spaying/neutering information can be found on the rabies certificate. If in doubt, contact us to verify that we have up-to-date rabies and spaying/neutering verification on file.
The deadline for obtaining a license is on the last business in April of each year. A penalty fee of $35.00 will be added if an application/renewal is submitted past the deadline.
