Ashfield Community Band
History
Formed in 2008 when local musicians came together to perform for the town’s Memorial Day celebrations, the Ashfield Community Band has rapidly become a town institution. The band’s repertoire ranges widely, including military marches, contemporary composers, holiday favorites and pop classics. If it’s fun to play, fun to listen to and an arrangement can be found, the band might just try it.
Powered by its participants' love of music, the Ashfield Community Band is dedicated to furthering the enjoyment and development of band music within the community. Under the leadership of conductor Cynthia Mangsen since 2011, the band rehearses weekly starting in mid April – May, then twice monthly between performances throughout the summer and fall. Hear the band at town Memorial Day observances, the Ashfield Fall Festival, the Ashfield Film Festival, the annual ice cream social, and other occasions.
Join the Band
The Ashfield Community Band is open to musicians of all ages and abilities from Ashfield and the surrounding towns. Some members have professional experience, some have recently pulled their instruments out of the closet after not playing for many years, and others have recently graduated from high school or college bands and are looking for a place to continue using their talent. There is no audition; if you have the skill level to play the music and can attend the majority of rehearsals and performances, you’re in! To join the band, talk to any band member, message via Facebook, or contact the band board (ashfieldmaband@gmail.com).
